The Housing Minister Alok Sharma, MP for Reading West, has been holding events and workshops around the country to meet and hear from tenants, to help address the concerns related to social housing which have been raised by the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy. Martin Carney, the Operations Director, represented the Society at this event.
The South West Region event, held at the Canalside Conference Centre Bridgwater, on Thursday 30th November 2017, was hosted by Homes in Sedgemoor, with over 90 attendees. The event commenced at 1.00pm with registration and refreshments, this was followed by a meeting between the Housing Minister and Senior Managers of Registered Providers within the area. The Housing Minister then addressed the whole meeting which was mainly made up of tenants, including several tenants from South Western Housing Society.
The event proved very informative and interesting, with the items raised being taken into consideration for the Government’s Social Housing Green Paper, which is a consultation document of policy proposals for debate and discussion, with the aim of providing a wide ranging review and a nationwide conversation on social housing.
