Following the government announcement on 23rd March, our three current development sites (Wedmore, Brent Knoll and Denbury) were all closed. We are pleased to confirm that all sites were re-opened in May. Since re-opening our contractors have been working hard to ensure that they adhere to COVID-19 site restrictions and this has been continually observed by our Clerk of Works and Employer’s Agents when inspecting the sites. These changes to working practices inevitably slowed progress initially but this is improving as the contractors get used to these new ways of working and the recent announcement to further relax social distancing measures will enable this to be improved further. It is pleasing to see that the weather is currently on our side and we continue to work to a delay of circa 3 months on the delivery of these affordable homes, until we receive more accurate revised programmes from our contractors.
We continue to minimise face to face meetings at the current time, with site progress meetings taking place virtually. We are monitoring this with the view to potentially allowing some outdoor site meetings in the near future, but continuing the option to join virtually for those that are not able to attend in person. Any site visits must be pre-arranged with the site management team and social distancing and hygiene practices observed at all times.
Whilst the delays are unfortunate, SWHS hope to now be making progress to deliver these new homes as soon as possible, whilst ensuring that this is done so in a safe manner with adherence to the changing advice and guidance issued. The Society remains committed to the health and safety of its staff, tenants, suppliers and contractors at all times.
