About Us

Who We Are

The Society was founded in 1944. We provide high quality affordable housing and work to strengthen communities in the rural areas and market towns in the south west region. We own and currently manage 583 homes for rent and 51 homes for shared ownership in the counties of Somerset, Devon, Dorset, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. We are a Registered Social Landlord (RSL) managing and developing affordable homes in the South West. We have charitable status and we are members of the National Housing Federation.

About the Board of Directors

The Society Board is made up of people with skills, interests or relevant experience, which assists the work of the Society. Board members are selected by interview following a skills assessment. 

The Board meets bi-monthly and oversees the main business of the Society, ensuring we are on track to meet our key strategic aims.

The Audit Committee reports to the Board and comprises four members. The Committee meets three times a year and oversees internal and external audit and provides advice on the effectiveness of our internal control systems, including our risk management process.

Board members are required to sign a Code of Conduct, which sets out what is expected of them in their role. An annual Board appraisal is undertaken each year, including a review of training needs.

The Remuneration and Nominations Committee reports to the Board and is made up of three members. The Committee meets twice a year to consider and make recommendation to the Board on staff reward and ensuring Board effectiveness.
